How to do well in school

thermometer of grades

Is it difficult for you to keep your grades up? Are you one of those people who thinks that you have to be really smart to get good grades? I'm here to tell you that that is a lie! Everybody has the potential to get straight A's if they put their minds to it. The key to getting good grades is not being a genius who learns everything really fast. The key to getting good grades is the hard work and dedication you put into becoming a good student. I'm not saying it's an easy task, but what I am saying is that it can be done. Don't ever be one of those people who says they "can't" pass a class because it's too hard. I used to be one of those people who would tell my dad that I couldn't pass English because I wasn't smart enough. In the second semester of my freshman year when I finally realized that I was lying to myself, I began to succeed in my classes and finally get the grades I've always wanted. In this article I'm going to give you the tips that I have researched to help me succeed in school and I am sure they're helpful for everyone also.

Understand that every single class that you take has a purpose, Don't be one of those people who always say "Why do I have to learn this, I won't use this ever again." Even though you might not use it ever again, understand that taking a variety of classes will help you develop your mind and your ability to think.

Be aware that every assignment you get in your classes is very important. A very bad habit that students have is that thestudy partnersy do all their homework, but they only do it with the intention of getting it done. A very important skill for a student to have is knowing how to do your homework with the intention of learning. Don't do homework because you have to, learn to do your homework because you want to. It makes a huge difference because when you want to you will actually try to learn what you have to learn!

Don't be afraid to ask for help! Learn how to take advantage of your teachers. If there is something you don't understand, don't be afraid to ask! There is nothing wrong with not understanding something when you first hear it. Don't feel dumb if you don't understand something, there is nothing wrong with asking questions. If you are shy about asking questions in front of class and need help, work with your teacher so you could find out when your teacher is available to work with you individually. As long as you get help, it doesn't matter how you get it.

Learn how to be organized! Organization is an important tool that will help you throughout your education. Being organized is important because it makes doing things a lot easier. If you have a binder, do your best to keep it as organized as possible so you won't have trouble looking for anything. You work really hard on the homework you get from your classes, make sure that your binder is organized so you know exactly where your homework is when it's time to turn it in.

Make sure you get enough sleep! Going to school on a night where you only get a couple hours of sleep is difficult. Try to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep every night. Without the proper rest it is very difficult to focus when you are in class. You will be too sleepy and unfocused to be able to pay attention to what your teacher has to say. Good rest is especially important when you have a test the next day. Not being able to focus on your test is a very bad thing that will most likely affect the grade you get on your test.

Prioritizing. If you want to be a good student and get good grades, you have to learn to put your school work before your social life. This is one of the most difficult tasks for teenagers because most teenagers do not want to cancel their plans so they can stay home and study, but it's a sacrifice you will have to make if want to be successful in school. Eventhough some of you may not like putting your hogarfieldmework first, remember that the sacrifice you are making is so you can have a good future.

Be an active participant in class. If your teacher asks a question in class and you feel like you know the answer to it, raise your hand so you could answer. Even if you are not quite sure if you are right or not, participate anyways. In my own experiences, I tend to remember the things that I get wrong and am told are wrong. Always know that you can learn from your mistakes, no matter what the mistake is. It's only a mistake if you don't learn from it and keep on doing it.

Choose your friends wisely. Try not to be friends with people who don't care about school. It doesn't matter who you are, if you hang out with people who get into trouble and don't do their best in school. Most likely you will get influenced into doing the same habits. Make friends who have high goals in life and want to go to college after high school. Have friends who you could do homstudy habitsework and study with.

Develop good study habits. Not only will good study habits help you in high school, but it will also help you in college. Find a place where you know you will be able to focus and concentrate on what you are doing. Make sure to choose a place where you have no distractions such as, cell phones, computers, or television. Doing homework in the library is also a good place to study for students because in most libraries it is mandatory to be silent. At Upward Bound a good place to during study time to study is in the silent room in Lassen Hall. The Resident Advisors make sure that it is silent so it could be a good environment where all students could study.

Do not procrastinate on your homework and assignments! Procrastination is one of the worst habits a student could have. Procrastination could be nothing but trouble if you're trying to be a success in school. It brings unnecessary stress to your life. It is unneccesary stress because it can easily be avoided if you don't wait until the last minute to finish your homework. If you get a project that is due in 2 weeks, do not be one of those people who wait until the night before the project's due date to get started. The people who do this tend to not get a good grade on that project and most likely it will lower that person's grade significantly. It is best to begin working on a project on the very same day that it was assigned to you. There is no need in finishing your project in one day. Spending 20 to 30 minutes a day until the due date of the project is usually good enough to complete a project. If you realize from the beginning that spending more time each day will be necessary to finish your project on time, do it! Do whatever you have to do to get done in the best possible way you can with the quality to get an A' on your project!
