Hello Seniors!

This will be my last newsletter article as your senior advisor. I just wanted take some time to let you know how special you made my year. I loved working with all of you and look forward to hearing your new adventures in the near future.

There are a lot of exciting things coming up during the next few weeks. I have been seeing beautiful prom dresses; I’ve heard about some great senior trips, and I anticipate a lot more things. Enjoy your last couple of months in high school and stay dedicated to your studies.

I know it might be a little difficult to stay focused, but it must be done. You have been admitted to the University of your choice under the conditions that you will pass all your classes with good grades and meet all you’re A-G requirements.  So if you start giving into Seniorities you might loose the opportunity to go to the college of your choice.

You have worked way to hard to loose this opportunity! So be responsible and enjoy the beautiful weather in the next few weeks, when school is over. You will have a few months off before your College adventures begin, until then, please read the items below to stay on track.

  • Check your FAFSA status. Go to Section 3 on the FAFSA Home Page- https://fafsa.ed.gov/FOTWWebApp/AppStatServlet
    • If your application is being processed go to the corrections link and read the information they are missing in order to fully process your application.
  • If you have been accepted to a University, please make sure you login into your portal account and review your financial award letter.
    • A Financial Award Letter is a document that tells you how much money you will receive for the academic year. It includes Cal-Grants, Pel-Grants, EOP Grant, loans, work-study etc.
    • It is very important that you take your time and review your document and follow through with any documents the office asks of you. If you don’t response in a timely manner your money might be delayed during the fall semester.
    • Once you review your letters make sure to officially accept your award.
  • Intent to Enroll:  Some of you will be receiving letters or emails from the colleges that you applied to regarding your intent to enroll.  Make sure that you follow the directions.
    • For those of you who are receiving intent to enroll from UC’s; remember, you can only say “Yes” to one.
  • Make sure that you read everything carefully!  There are deadlines for a reason... make sure that you meet them.  Upward Bound cannot do anything if you missed your University deadlines!
  • Don’t forget that we formally requested a copy of your senior portrait or a glamour shot to be published on the 2007 Upward Bound Graduation Program. You can submit your picture by;
  • Emailing it to Delmy Montenegro at dmontenegro@csuchico.edu or
      • Mail a hard copy to...

        Upward Bound CSUC
        Chico, CA 95926-0712

(original will be mailed back) or
      • Send it to the Office via your Tutor and
      •  Finally if you want to get dressed up and stop by Clint’s office he will be glad to take your picture:)

Final Picture Submission Deadline is Friday, May 4th, 2007

  • Make sure that you follow directions; if you are unsure, feel free to contact me. I will help you any way I can, but please do not wait until the last minute.  It may take a few days to get back to you.

Good Luck! I hope to hear from you soon.

Sincerely,

Delmy Montenegro
